Alissa Firsova is one of today’s most individual young composers. In this video, recorded live at recording sessions in July 2017, Alissa introduces a thought-provoking, colourful collection of her works, including the substantial string quartet of 2016, “Tennyson Fantasy”, commissioned by the Tippett Quartet; two works for clarinet and piano (performed by their dedicatee, Mark van de Wiel), and the clarinet Quintet “Loss”; two vocal works on the theme of “Paradise on Earth”, with soprano Ellie Laugharne effortlessly despatching “Here in Canisy”, and bass-baritone Nicholas Crawley making a fine recording debut in “Unity”, and cellist Tim Hugh performing "Fantasy" of 2014.
The CD was recorded for Vivat in the new recording venue, Alpheton New Maltings, demonstrating this world-class hall's acoustic of striking clarity and warmth.
